Rovio, the mobile gaming firm that brought us Angry Birds, has announced that it has reached a record 500 million downloads less than 2 years after it’s launch! WOW!

Now they are bringing the popular, and highly addictive game, to playgrounds in Finland.

2 Finnish towns will get playgrounds kitted out with equipment inspired by the mobile game. I would love to see this! I can only imagine how damn cool this must be.

I just wonder how they will prevent injury and children from using live animals as targets and projectiles? ;-)

BTW, I am adding Angry Bird plush toys to my Christmas Wish List if anyone is thinking about buying me something :)

As I sat in the cinema watching Moneyball I couldn’t help but notice certain similarities between the Oakland Athletics and my beloved Stormers. By no means should the Stormers be classified as “minnows” and the Athletics’ budget in comparison with a team like the Boston Red Sox bares more resemblance between the ratio of a team like the Puma’s budget to one of SA’s big five (no, not the animals).

Save Our Rhino

Posted: 12/12/2011 in South Africa
Tags: , , ,

Been mulling over whether I should write something or not about this, as I get very angry and emotional about any kind of animal abuse, but especially when it involves one of our Big 5 in South Africa.

My blood is boiling right now. There was another attack over the weekend where 2 rhino were drugged with huge doses of morphine and then their horns where hacked out by panga’s. The one happened to be a pregnant female and she had to have an abortion due to the stress of the attack on her body. This just added fuel to the fire for me.

The worst part about all the attacks that have happened in South Africa, over 400 in 2011 alone, is that they are carried out by South African’s who are being paid with foreign money.

The fact that South Africans are doing the attacks astounds me and infuriates me even more. Yes you can argue that the economy this and unemplyment that but the fact of the matter is that this is an act of violence against our natural fauna. A protected species are being wiped out by greed.

This is not only an attack on our fauna, on our Big 5, on our animals but this should be seen and treated as an attack on our country by foreign people. The attackers that perform these deeds should be tried for treason as far as I am concerned. They are attributing to declining numbers of our rhino. One day we will have nothing. There are already 2 species of rhino that have become extinct.

The cowards in foreign countries, mostly in the far east, sit back and reap the benefits of raping our natural resources.

Maybe I should censor this post, but while I still can say what I want to say, I will use my voice and do so. I am a South African. It is my duty as a South African to protect my country, our flora, our fauna, our natural beauty and natural resources against extinction.

I may not take up arms, but I will use my voice as a weapon and say what needs to be said to get people to understand, to hear what I have to say, to get people together and become united. We cannot just sit back and read the newspaper articles about rhino attacks, we need to do something NOW, before it becomes too late.

So I call on the President of South Africa, I call on the Premiers of each province and I call on the mayors of each city to stand up, take their fingers out their butts and do something about this. Put politics aside, this is not a political war or a political point, it is about our country that is under attack.

DO SOMETHING NOW! SAVE OUR RHINO! SAVE OUR NATURAL RESOURCES!

How can you explain to your grandchildren that rhinos were made extinct yet you did nothing to stop it or try to prevent it from happening!

Going through Memeburn, I find these 2 articles that I find really interesting and well written by Chris Wilson

Five ways you can make better use of mobile

and

Seven major mobile trends you should be aware of

Nicely written Chris!

I am one of those people who enjoy doing anything online. I mean why be so archaic and go into stores and banks when you can do everything online now and its usually cheaper. Well in the case of my internet banking anyways.

So imagine my surprise when I go to the website of the vendor I use only to be told that they can no longer provide the ability to purchase prepaid electricity via their website due to the City of Cape Town changing their regulations etc. No other explanation was provided. I just left it at that as trying to find out was a major hassle.

I now stumbled upon this article which explains it all.

Come on City of Cape Town, make it easy for us again. Nothing worse than trying to find a place that can sell prepaid electricity at 2am in the morning. The purchase via internet was so much easier and more convenient…

I miss those days…

Who knew that BlackBerry was so popular in Indonesia… so much so that a promotion running in Indonesia caused people to stampede due to impatience and excitement, injuring more than 40 people, with about 20 that fainted..

Now I love BlackBerry but not sure if I love it this much…

Angry Post

I hate that feeling I get when I disappoint someone. I am usually the type of person that goes out of my way to help others, to be the one that can be depended on.

I am putting myself first for a change. I am thinking about my feelings and what I want to do and what I want out of life. My family is not used to this and I feel like a dog but it’s something I need to do for me.

I am not feeling too great this Monday. Didnt get much sleep. I am probably going to get the cold shoulder for a while but it is time for people to realize that I cannot just be used when they need something.

I am an angry person. I have looked on for far too long at how people treat me, other members of my family and especially my gran.

For those of you that don’t know, my gran is not well. She is 88 years young and has had a few strokes and has problems with her heart. She is strong though, she has been through a helluva lot. The thing she misses most is that she doesn’t get to see some of her family enough. She doesn’t really say too much about this, but every now and then she mentions it and it hurts me to see this. She is the last of our Grandparents. She is the last of that generation. I wish people will realize this. This may well be her last Christmas with us. We need to cherish the time we have with her.

When people decide to not have Christmas with us and put their friends before family, then I have an issue with this. It make me very angry. I may not be the best person around but I do try and see my gran and spend time with her and spoil her as often as I can. I want her last days to be comfortable and full of family time and love.

So yes, I am angry. I am putting myself first. I am not going to help people out when they treat my gran like this. I am not going to make it easy for them. They need to understand responsibility and what it means to be part of the family and also what it means to have a pet. I have been through a lot this year and the fact is that when I needed my family most, these members of my family were not there for me but now I am good enough?

Sorry but I dont think so….

Interesting… everyone seems to want to get into the online shopping business these days.

Seems that Google.com is looking at adding to their stable of products and services.

This is great for the USA, but what about us in South Africa? Who is going to challenge the online retailers here to either better their service or drop their prices?
